September 10, 2011 - Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Free Screening Event

Saint Joseph's Hospital

The Prostate Cancer Center at Saint Joseph's in collaboration with the Know Your Stats About Prostate Cancer campaign, screened over 130 men on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Screening included both a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal examination (DRE). Results from the screening will be mailed to participants within two weeks. Thank you to the physicians, Saint Joseph's staff, and other volunteers who helped make this screening event so successful!

We were delighted to see a diverse goup of men attend the screening. Annual screening is recommended for men between the age of 40 and 75 who have not been diagnosed with prostate cancer. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer are at increased risk.

Volunteer physicians provide a prostate examination for every participant.
